Wood is a fantastic material. Its most visible asset has to be its beauty, warmth and style but it has practical properties too, making it the best all round material for beautiful buildings, furniture and wooden toys.
For constructing buildings, wood is ethically and environmentally great because it requires less energy to produce than the same weight of brick, concrete, glass, steel or aluminium. Using wood also saves on the production of carbon dioxide - it is 5 times better than concrete, 10 times better than brick and 350 times better than steel for this. It is really the only building resource that is truly renewable. The modern wooden home can give warmth and beauty whilst not damaging the environment.
Wood is a carbon neutral material and in some cases, actually carbon negative. As trees grow, they absorb and store carbon dioxide, thus helping to reduce climate change. In fact, trees absorb one tonne of carbon dioxide for every cubic metre of growth, making them great for the environment. In managed forests, for every tree that is cut down, more are planted.

Chain of custody certification is now in use, which provides buyers and users the assurance that the wood (and wood products) have been obtained from legal sources where forest management is carried out in accordance with internationally recognised standards so a timber supplier should be able to provide this certification proof for you.
Wood provides greater strength in proportion to its weight than any other building material and that is why so many oak beams are still standing strong in period houses today. The material is easier to preserve, in any kind of climate because it doesn't rust or corrode, hence its use in the marine industry. It is a great natural insulator and good for use all over the house making a product such as oak flooring not only look great but be warm to walk on too.

Pre-assembled window units install quickly into a rough opening and adjust easily after carrying out some simple carpentry. Wood is easy to shape, making it great for furniture and toy makers. Wood has to be the all round best material for your house - both for constructing it and adorning it. It rates very highly environmentally, ethically and aesthetically. Whilst it has been a favourite material of the past, it is very much also a material for the future.
