One of the most important things about a balcony railing is that it is secure. Regardless of what type of material you use in constructing the railing you have to make sure that it is attached to the building properly. Once this is done properly then you can start thinking of some ideas to dress up your balcony. Whatever material you use on the bottom of your balcony has to be secured with the same care as you attached your railings as you don't want the flooring to blow off the balcony and cause harm to people or vehicles. Usually balconies are in apartment buildings, although some are found in homes especially off an upstairs bedroom. If it is an apartment balcony, check with your landlord before you start your project and get permission from them.
Depending how you use your balcony there are many ideas out there to improve the look of it. For example, if the balcony is just too small for entertaining, then you can still dress it up by putting large porcelain or stone tiles on the deck of your balcony. You can even mix them to give a greater impact. These tiles should be at least 12 inches by 12 inches. If your balcony happens to be concrete, you can stain or paint it for a dramatic effect.
The easiest and best solution for a balcony is to cover the balcony floor with interlocking wood deck tiles. These wonderful deck tiles can be used whether it is a new deck or an old one. If it is an old deck and you just want to spruce it up you can lay these tiles right over the existing flooring. These tiles just click together and once you have done this they stay in place and are usually unaffected by wind or weather.
