The New Flooring

Even though concrete has been used for years as the foundation for many houses and other architectural structures it was usually covered with a flooring material before people inhabited the building. These coverings are usually carpet, wood, laminates, tile or linoleum or a similar product. However, the new flooring today is the old flooring substrate, concrete. With one's imagination and the products available today, you can make your gray drab concrete floor into the most beautiful floor imaginable, even more than you can do with wood, tile, carpet or linoleum like products. This is a perfect floor for those who are allergic to carpet and carpet by-products. They are very easy to clean and don't need to be maintained like a wood floor or worried about like a laminate. If you spill water on them they won't curl up and cause an uneven flooring problem. You can use as little or as much water on them while cleaning them.

When using concrete construction for more than just the flooring, you can color the concrete prior to installation also. But the latest craze is doing so after the fact. The first step is to make sure the surface is clean. For detailed instructions on the best methods look on the internet or find a good book on the subject. There are many different cleaners depending on what is on the surface of the concrete. If you are cleaning a garage surface it will probably take a cleaner that removes oil and grease. If you are doing an indoor surface it will have glue and other materials used to hold down a wood, tile or carpeted surface. The easiest surface or course would be a new house when the concrete is first poured and cured.

If you are looking for precast concrete products with color added you can check with a precast concrete manufacturer to see what is available if anything. It would be interesting yet expensive to see a variety of highway dividers on the roads just to break up the monotony of driving. However, even if we won't see it outside very soon, you can certainly be creative around your home. From the driveway, to the living room floor to the patio and decking, colored or stained concrete is catching on like wildfire. That's another factor that is healthy and green. There are no toxic fumes given off by concrete and it doesn't burn. You may want to hire a contractor if you prefer not to handle the stains due to the fumes they may give off.
