I hate diets and I especially hate starting diets. Diets very often do not work, which is why people are always starting them. Yet I need to lose weight occasionally and you probably do as well. Here are five ways you can start losing weight, losing body fat, today, and concrete example of what I've done today that work.
1) Substitute more healthy foods occasionally for the foods you usually eat. This will cause you to eat fewer calories as the healthier food will fill you up and take the place of the less healthy food. Notice I'm saying occasionally; no need to be draconian.
For example today instead of the French Fries I'd normally get with my lunch I opted for the fruit cup. I like fruit, I just do not tend to eat or order it. I didn't miss the fries much and I really enjoyed the fresh fruit, and I saved calories in the process.
2) When eating out, don't finish your food. You almost always get far too much, at least in the US, and are full far before finishing.
For example the turkey sandwich I got today was the normal massive portion most restaurants serve. Even though I opted for fruit instead of fries, it was an enormous amount of food. I ate about 2/3 of it, and then tossed away the rest. I hate to waste food, but if I had left it in front of me, I would have finished it!
3) Eat more slowly. When you eat more slowly you fill up more quickly, and equally importantly you'll brain will be signaled by your stomach when it's full. If you eat fast you'll eat many extra calories before your brain gets the signal.
I have trouble with this one as I tend to eat very fast, especially when alone. I'm eating alone less, and also reading when eating alone to moderate my pace.
4) Be active. You don't need an exercise program to lose weight! Walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or do whatever you enjoy.
For example I'm killing time in an airport right now, and I bet I've leisurely and enjoyably walked 2 miles. I also took the stairs in my hotel this week at least once a day instead of the elevator. The calories add up.
5) Be positive. You can and will lose weight!
I know I'm taking off weight slowly as long as I stick to it! It will slowly and easily melt off.
